Artreach promotes and supports recovery for adults who have psychiatric disorders through theater, music, visual arts and holistic wellness classes. Several types of programs are available. The Second Step Players is a performing theater troupe. Their educational sketch comedy, stand up comedy, and musical parodies about mental health issues entertains, educates the public and reduces stigma. The Players have been ambassadors in community education and advocacy since 1985. The Second Step Players Touring Theater Troupe performs shows nationally to spread the word that Recovery Happens and Creativity Heals.
Artreach's new Holistic Wellness program includes trainings in Mindfulness meditation, Yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong, and Walking Club. Coming soon are Zumba and more African Dance classes, as physical health is an integral component to recovery. Recreation for Recovery gives program members an opportunity to have fun in the community and combats the isolation that can be a result of psychiatric symptoms. Peer support is an integral component of the recreation program. Activities include trips to ball games, concerts, billiards and pottery making. If you’re interested in getting involved with Artreach, the first step is to call Becca or Robin at 860-887-0014 and have a conversation about your interests. Our activities include
